Road Trip Part Deux
Last weekend we took another road trip in search of snow. Leaving Thursday night after work we drove to Pinedale, Wyoming. Pulling in late that night we were only a little more than an hour away from Jackson Hole! Excitement was in the air as we anticipated the many turns down the slopes we would take in the days to come.
Jackson Hole is an amazing and ever changing resort. The weather patterns on this mountain resort are rarely the same. One day could be dumping snow and the next a blue bird day. Last year we took a road trip to Jackson Hole and were spoiled by lots of fresh powder everyday. We arrived last weekend with high hopes of the same conditions.
Unfortunately, we weren’t in for the same conditions. There wasn’t much for fresh powder last weekend. The snow at the base was spring conditions. However, if you ventured to the top part of the resort the snow was better and you could find a few spots with some powder. Even though the conditions weren’t as we had hoped for we had an amazing time skiing and spending time together.
Room with a view
The room we found was awesome! It had a kitchenette. Very cool since it allowed us to cook all of our own meals! The other really cool thing about this hotel was the view. We stayed in the Elk Refuge Inn. It is located across from the National Elk Refuge. We had a constant view of the mountains and herds of Elk. It was great fun to watch the elk from our room.
Snow King Mountain
On our third day of skiing we took a rest day. Well everyone but I took a rest day. I had free tickets and decided to check out the small local resort located in the town of Jackson Hole, Snow King Mountain. It is a really small resort with maybe a handful of runs. From the top there is an amazing view of the Grand Tetons and the town of Jackson Hole.
I had a great time checking out the views and even found a little powder here and there. The other great thing about this resort is that there aren’t many visitors. I had every run to myself the entire afternoon. Check it out if you are ever in Jackson Hole looking for something less commercialized and busy.
