Moving DayMoving a school and church

This weekend we didn’t go anywhere exciting or exotic however it was a really great weekend! Our church and school are building a new building. On this past Friday we received a temporary Certificate of Occupancy. This gave us the green light to move items from the old church and school into the new facility. We can’t move in and begin using the building yet, but we can start moving boxes, etc. into the space. The church sold the old facilities to Colorado Mesa University and per our agreement we have to be out by December 31, 2017. Needless to say there is a lot to do in a very short amount of time.

Moving Day!

Sunday morning arrived bright and cold. It was about 25 degrees when we left our house on Sunday morning. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Arriving at the school the entire family pitched in immediately carrying boxes, chairs and all manner of things you would find in a school out to waiting trailers and trucks. I’ve always dreaded and somewhat disliked moving my own home. But a school. I’ve never move a school before. Have you?

The church and school community showed up in a huge way to support the move. There were willing people coming out of the woodwork it seemed. All willing to help however they could. It was so amazing to see how quickly the school and church were packed up and moved. In about 7 hours we had moved all major and minor items that we could move at this time. The tricky part is that we still have one week of school left before we can move the remaining items at the school. The church will still be holding services for 2 more weeks. So there is still a lot more work to be done.

All said and done the day was a very successful one. We were all tired however it was a good tired. One that felt like we not only accomplished something but we were part of something bigger. One where we gave of ourselves to help others. We look forward to having everything moved into the new facilities and to enjoy using the new space!
