Downhill Fun!

IMG_1017Last weekend Trestle Bike Park at Winter Park resort in Colorado opened for the summer season!  Friday came and we loaded up our DH bikes and camp gear and headed to Winter Park for the weekend after work. The Winter Park area has continued to grow in popularity for summer camping. Our typical M.O. is to drive to Winter Park from Grand Junction Friday after work. It is typically at least a 3.5 hour drive so we always arrive late at night to find a camp spot and set up camp. This last weekend was no different.

By the time we arrived in Winter Park it was 9:30 pm. We proceeded to head towards our favorite camping spots to see if any were available. Unfortunately these spots seem to be everyone else’s favorite spot as well so we were out of luck. After driving around the dispersed camping options we finally found a paid spot and decided to break our streak of not paying for camping. Of course we didn’t have any cash so back down the hill we drove into town to get cash at Safeway. Finally at about 11 pm we were back at camp and setting up.

Bright and way too early the sun was up and our fun began. First we did a 5 mile family trail run/ride before breakfast. After breakfast we loaded up the bikes and headed to ride at the resort. The day was filled with riding our bikes and playing at the resort base area. The fun at the base includes a maze, bungee trampoline, alpine slide, rock climbing and miniature golf. We filled both days with lots of these activities.

It was the goal to take our daughter up the chairlift to ride a green DH trail by the end of the weekend. We were successful! By the end of Sunday when the lifts closed we had taken her down the green run twice! The weekend ended on a great note watching her zoom down the hill and hearing sounds of gleeful joy as she enjoyed riding DH! We packed up and drove home excited for next weekend when we will return to ride DH again.

Have a wonderful week!
